What Does the Auditor-Controller Do?
The Auditor-Controller is responsible for:
- Preparing all financial reporting to the State, Federal and Local Governments, including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Statement of the County
- Monitoring all State and Federal Grants received by the County to ensure all spending in done in accordance with the grant regulations and requirements.
- Allocating property tax revenues to the schools, cities/town, and special districts
- Providing accounting and support to the County’s Departments to assist them in fiscal issues, budgeting and financial reporting
- Paying all the County’s bills accurately and on time
- Paying all the County’s employees and retirees
- Compiling and Monitoring the County’s budget
- Maintaining the County’s Financial Software System and provide support and training to users of the system
- Administering the bond issued debt of the County and the Schools within the County
- Providing accounting and support to many Special Districts, which includes paying bills and processing payroll
- Monitoring third party contracts for the Farm Worker Centers
- Monitoring and auditing billing rates for the Garbage Companies
- Internal Auditing of County Departments regarding County fiscal policies and procedures
- Auditing entities within the unincorporated areas of the County to ensure proper collection and submission of Transient Occupancy Tax (Hotel Tax)
- Accounting and maintaining detailed records for the Measure A Flood Sales Tax and other restricted revenue sources.
